Favicon and News Feeder

I am still tweaking and fiddling with my blog site, when i get a few minutes here and there – how obsessive!!!! In case you were wondering, and some of you have asked already . . .

1. The news feed on the right, that was a regular on my previous blog for about 2 years, is from Moreover News. It was given out as a freebie early in their business, and is no longer available free.

2. The little tall skinny kiwi icon in my address bar (above) is called a ‘favicon’. Jordon Cooper put me on to this htmlgoodies.com site which led me to favicon.com which told me how to do it. The .ico file is a weird one and not all graphics programs export to this file. I downloaded Pixadex for Mac (which worked without paying – must be a trial version) and managed to get an .ico file out of my image. Thanks Coop.

  • Not a problem. The cool thing is that is also shows up in my bookmarks and RSS reader too.

  • Jon Reid says:

Sadly, your favicon does not show up in Safari, though others do. What gives?

    hi jon
safari is funny with me – it shows up on my safari browser, but when i go to the comments section it disappears.
why? i dont know. but you are more geeky than me – why dont you figure it out and let me know if you find out anything.

  • Internet Explorer for Windows is even more bizarre with the favicon. It almost never shows up and then it does for a couple of hours and then it is gone again.
