The Nines Conference.

Hey I just remembered that today is the Nines conference which is the best online conference I know of. Over 100 speakers. 5 minutes each. And this year its PERSONAL with many of the speakers sharing about their family and their time and other stuff.

I am speaker number 13 and I thought I had missed my video but  . . guess what . .  I come on in about 10 minutes

So take your eyeballs over to TheNines and watch me talk about my incredible family  – my longsuffering wife and my 5 kids who have traveled with me to 5 continents in the past 18 months. And how my family is able to put up with me without going absolutely INSANE.

This program has some study questions and I just happen to be around for a bit so if you have some questions then fire away in the comments below.

How do you encourage unselfish behavior? One of my daughters struggles with this and I don’t know how to practically make it better.

  • Andrew says:

Amy, I am asking my kids and wife right now:
after a family discussion, we have decided that:
-its easier when you are in a big family – we have 5 kids.
    – treat others like you want to be treated yourself is a good rule.
    – we talk through things
    – you dont force them to share but encourage them to talk through the whole process so that they have ownership of the concept and can do it themselves.
    – we dont just talk but we listen so they know their contributions are important.

    Andrew,
Thanks for the reminder, it enabled me to catch most of your video. I did miss the first two points or so. Can you say a bit about how you craft rituals for your family or how you notice them starting to emerge in your patterns of life? Are there rituals that you practice in private within your family?
    Nate

  • Andrew says:

nate, some of the rituals that we do have found their way into other families also
    notably:
the Friday night pizza and movie
although we may have stolen it from another family
we also do crepes on sunday morning with U2 music but thats more my thing
another is taking a break as a family after an intensive festival or event,. still learning that one …

I love this list, especially the idea of going to more festivals than conferences. I attended the STORY conference in Chicago, but they created more of a festival environment that made a huge difference for me as an attendee.

  • Really enjoyed your talk. Thanks for sharing and for putting your points up here! I do need to remember what you said!

  • Jason says:

Dang it, I always vote on this but end up missing it. Hope the vids are still up someplace.

  • Ya know, i wish you’d quit looking like crocodile dundee …. Smile dude!
