Reading . . .

Hopping on a plane from London to Dallas. What am i reading?

1. Draft copy of We Think by Charles Leadbeater (PDF) I tried to buy it but couldnt find a paper copy.

2. Surprised by Hope by Tom Wright which I have already mostly read once and am breezing through it again. I think might be book of the year. Really a great book.

Andrew Jones launched his first internet space in 1997 and has been teaching on related issues for the past 20 years. He travels all the time but lives between Wellington, San Francisco and a hobbit home in Prague.

  • I agree with your assessment of _Surprised by Hope_.
Even when I disagree with Wright, he’s still brilliant. And his dismantling of the pessimistic theology that pervades so much of modern evangelicalism is spot on.

I want to thank you for the information brother. I am just starting to read and study about the Emerging Church and wanting our small church to be more missional. I am excited. I have bought some books about the Emerging Church:
“The Emerging Church: Vintage Christianity for New Generations.”
“Everything Must Change” by Brian Mclern
“Adventures in Missing the point” by Brian McLaren and Tony Campolo.
“The Emerging Culture: Five Perspectives” by Leonard Sweet
“Releasing the Power of the Smaller Church” by Shawn McMullen.
I was wondering if there is other books that you would recommend in me starting an emerging church or implenting some changes withiin the church.
I pray that God will bless you and your ministry in a powerful way!
    In Him,
    Kinney Mabry

Looking forward to your perspectives on Surprised By Hope. I’m looking to use it here at the university for the Institute program.
Creative leaders are moved by these ideas, and Wright has a way of offering them simply but profoundly.

Got any stops in Raleigh? If so, buzz me!

  • I only recently came across Steve Hu’s 2007 paper on syncretism, Newbigin, and the emerging church. I found the paper wonderful, and would like to contact Hu for further interaction in this and other contexts. Can you provide me with his contact informaton?
