John O’Donohue 1954-2008

Andy Espin P19#1#I met John O’Donohue only last year but he made a big impact on me. A funny, deep thinking, profound man who never wasted words but often channeled them into searching poetry like Beannacht (“Blessing”) that I published on this blog (with permission) and used as a prayer in a number of conferences last year. You can also find it the book Anam Cara: A book of Celtic Wisdom.

The way he introduced himself to the crowd at Greenbelt Festival was memorable. He said “I was a Catholic priest for . . . ohh . . Jesus . . . 19 years!”

My Irish mate Gareth Higgins, who introduced me to John, knew him quite well and has the skinny on John O’Donohue
