I find the fundamentalists’ crisis a little hard to feel sympathy for. Not least when I follow a few stray links to discover David Instone-Brewer’s detailed, thoughtful and gracious review of marriage and divorce in Scripture and contemporary Jewish (and Roman) culture slammed for not being drawn from a literal reading of the text, by people who apparently are not Fundamentalist enough!
