Tags and Cats

More discussion about tags and categories and a little TallskinnykiwiNo going on at Glorious Caustic Conversation. [hey, kids . . get off my back lawn before i come over there and HIT U WIT MY WALKIN STICK!] Maybe my way of blog organization is old fashioned. I dont know. Read my argument in the comments.

BTW – I am using ONE category on this blog post and about TWELVE technorati tags – all attached effortlessly and within seconds with ecto blog editor that lets me assign both typepad categories AND technorati tags AND keep them seperate. That means technorati handles the chaos and not me. That seems smart. Why do i want all those categories on my blog? What do you think?

I think young bloggers should listen to their elders, regardless of how old, crusty and stuck in their ways they may be . Start with my post on blogging.

    Andrew,
what about all the mess with technorati not indexing blogs thought? I, for one, took your advice and started using tags– but my blog has only been indexed once since Christmas. This appears to be a widespread problem. Are we tagging and nobody is listening?

  • LOL! Great way to start the day!

  • To get indexed by Technorati, you just have to ping them whenever you blog. Then they will immidiatly update the index with your new posting.

I understand that, and it is nice in theory. But, I have ecto set up to ping them automatically, and I have pinged manually countless times. Others have had this same problem and it is deeper than updating your ping.

  • Kevin, this happened to me. It is because they have mistagged you in their database (I have a feeling you were tagged as a spam blog). They didn’t respond to any help e-mails so what I did was have my wife blog about my problem, link to me, tag it with “technorati” and then I linked to her post with my del.icio.us account and tag it technorati. By the time I got up in the morning, my problem was fixed and Technorati’s employees had apologized in my comments.

another thing you might try, if you havent already, is to go to technorati.com and claim your blog, fill out the info about it and assign a number of categories to it.

  • Paul Bowman says:

That’s what I did (claim your blog at Technorait) and I’ve not had any problems, seems like the best thing to do and it only takes a minute.

I claimed my blog there about a year ago, so I’ll try to find a way to put Jordon’s advice into action.

  • A Tagged Desktop?

So some of the gnome hackers are playing with making a taggable desktop library, so any file or anything with a uri will be able to be freetaged, and managed based on that tag. Ever wondered what if flickr was my OS? Check this out …It makes me wo
