This is Shane Claiborne. When I met him in 1998 (99?), he had dyed spots all over his hair and the Mafia had just donated a truckload of bikes to his ministry, The Simple Way.
He came over for Greenbelt last year and should come back in 2006.
Christianity Today has 2 articles on remonking the church and what that new monasticism is beginning to look like with many emerging monastic communities in USA. Old news for many of us, but nice to see CT talk about. Good to see Shane get mentioned and another corner of the emerging church is getting some more cred.

Woohoo Eastern University, my alma mater! I know some people I graduated with who are currently living at the Simple Way. Thanks for the link!
I like the whole intentionality stuff but reckon it helps to balance it with a kind of intentional chaos. May want to look at the post on Emerging church as a manifestation of our subcultures weakness PART 2

Tony, if you were a Celtic monk, you could have stayed married.
I dont know of any new monastic movements in the emerging church that forbid marriage – do you?
Unless you’re a homosexual monk, no…
