Evangelical Blog Awards

AwardslogoThe 1st Annual Evangelical Blog Awards were given out recently at Evangelical Underground.com. Steve Knight’s list of potential winners, I thought, was better than the actual winners. Maybe he should be a judge next year????

Runners up for this award included some friends of mine: Messy Christian, Doug Pagitt, (I hate to brag, but i actually designed Doug’s first blog), and Andrew Careaga of Bloggedy blog, who should be a JUDGE and not a contestant. In fact, Andrew C is qualified to give out his own Careaga Awards to the best blogs!!!

My Top 3 Winners out of their list of winners, are . . . the envelope file please . .

1. Stu’s Rants – funny, casual, real, no self-pimping. This blog is the winner of the winners, in my opinion. Its the way a good blog should be. Well done, Stu!!!

2. Amy’s Humble Musings – warm, vulnerable, personal.

3. Dead Yet Living – holistic, random, and LONGEVITY.

Some of the other winner’s blogs were less impressive, which inspired the 7 deadly sins of bloggers that i just posted. The most blatant sin deals with money. It seems that every time a new technology comes out, the church is terribly quick to use it for money-making. At the British Library is one of the first published documents from the new invention of movable type – no, not the Gutenberg Bible, but a Papal Letter of Indulgence printed on the same press. It didnt take long for the church to try to make a buck. Thats why I get annoyed when i see so much advertising on church based web sites.

Deadly Sin No.1. Using your blog to pimp your books or yourself as a conference speaker. The words “Click Here and Check Out Our MP3 Shopping Cart” should not be the first words to appear on your blog. See other Deadly Sins

And the 2005 Skinny Award for the Best Comment on a Blog Post Referring to “Evangelical Blog Awards” goes to . . .

ParableMan (Jeremy), award nominee, for this thought provoking comment:

“I don’t have reservations about being nominated. I’m wondering why we need evangelical blog awards. Bloggers have been complaining a lot lately about the evangelical blog ghetto, expressing wishes that we break out of it. I don’t think there was ever a time when I was in it, because a large number of my readers are philosophers who aren’t even Christians, never mind evangelicals, but I do think a number of bloggers who are evangelicals tend to emphasize this notion that the blogs that are evangelical are this distinct group, which leads to an idea of separateness rather than interaction”

Hey man, thanks for the kind words.

  • I’m flattered. I echo Rich’s statements.
I’m in the middle of struggling with Christian Celebritism – I hate the “ghetto” myself but am a huge fan of yours. Now that I’ve made it on your site…what else is left for me? To drown in my own hypocrisy!! Ha Ha!
Thank you again, for the kind words.

    Dearest Andrew,
Now you know I think you are just the cat’s meow, but I find awards for blogs a little disturbing. However, I do believe we should support and recognize one another. The blogs are a sort of personal journal, as close to getting to know a person without meeting them face to face. So throwing out awards seems a little odd to me. To be honest, most of my visitors come from google. They are searching for things like Pepe le Pu and the Brother Sun, Sister Moon movie. Maybe my blog will have a good effect, maybe it will make them cringe. I don’t know, but it is my hope that the light of God would shine through.
    Take Care Andrew 🙂

    Hi there,
We feel that the Evangelist Christians who support consistent military action have been, for the most part, unfairly portrayed
in the mainstream media. Most of the major news networks have glossed over many
important issues rather than according them the proper focus. Certain aspects of
Christianity, most notably the Old Testament’s influence in today’s modern world, have
inspired us in our recent work. We hope you enjoy “Maggots & Liars”.
    Sincerely,

    Request for Partnership
    Dear Pastor,
Greetings in the most beautiful name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I am Evangelist Shahid Gill from Pakistan. I am striving to spread the Word of God in Pakistan. My work is to go out into nearest and remote areas and preach the gospel of Christ to Christians and Non Christians of this state.
I do this because our Lord said,
“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
Praise God! And so much AMEN to that.
I recently visited your website and am very impressed by the work that you are doing. I truly want to be a member of your ministry/church and work with you as your representative in Pakistan. Please do let me know how can I do it? Thanks.
I also want to express my desire to translate any of your materials into Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Siraiki, Pashto, Balochi and Hindko languages. I believe doing this would spread the Word of God among native people into their languages of interest, in Pakistan, India and around the world.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. God bless you.
