I don’t know how I feel about “Emergent Quaker” and “Mr. Potato Head and the Emerging Church” being listed in a post together: what you trying to say?!! 🙂 😉
The Mr. Potato Head is a fairly masterful use of something very “earthy” or “down to earth” (must the puns go on), and then applying it as a metaphor to the emerging church. I think this kind of creativity in presenting the concepts is a big plus that the emerging church brings to the table. My thoughts on ecclesiology are now richer thanks to Mr. Potato Head.
On a different note, I read additional posts on Heidi’s blog and was struck with the prophetic movement in Europe. Does the US have the same kind of networks? My experiences have only brought me to little pockets of people who have an inkling of the prophetic, want more of God, but have not found a flourishing group. Any thoughts on the locale of some healthy prophetic groups on the Yank side of the pond?
Well first of all, no one that I know of outside of 4-6 people refer to themselves as prophetic. Most Christians that I know of would stare at me funny if I said that someone spoke “prophetically”. And yet I think that the prophetic gift is what I myself and so many other Christians really need.
So whether it involves speaking or praying with a sense of God’s authority, or something else that I have not heard of, I guess that’s what I mean when I talk about the prophetic in Europe. Heidi’s blog seemed to reveal a lot of people who had a clear sense of how God uses the prophetic gift to speak to a certain time and place. their prayer meetings seemed to be intentionally prophetic in nature.
So perhaps I don’t quite know what the prophetic exactly is. My knowledge of it goes about as far as a few experiences and Wolfgang’s House Church book.
