25 Years Away from NZ

Our family left New Zealand on December 5, 1980. Mum and Dad were together then, and we kids were 4 teenagers. None of us had ever left NZ. We flew across to Perth, West Australia to settle in a place with more sun and a new life. VERY exciting. Everything was new. I still remember the music we listened to on the plane (Kenny Rogers) and the warm wind hitting our face as we walked onto the runway. There was a patch of grass next to the plane and my dad I walked over to put our feet on it . . . to really TOUCH it.

Its one of the best memories I have. There have been many times when I bring my family into a new country and I hype it up right before we enter and make it a big deal. Maybe sometimes I am trying to renew my own memory of Dec 5th. Or helping my kids to make a memory like mine.

Thats a really cool, memory….I have distant memories like that, so full of nostalgia.
Thanks for the Hammett posts too, found them really thought provoking.
