Conservative Pope Gives first Mass

PopefirstThe first Mass, as the white smoke clears the streets of Vatican City. I am glad the Roman Catholics got a conservative Pope. When i was praying for them to choose the right leader, a conservative Catholic was strongly in my mind. Not saying I agree with all the conservative choices . . . thats not the point . . . I am just saying that right now, a Conservative Pope is what they need and they got it. Wishing them them a great new chapter in their next phase and every ounce of wisdom for Pope Benedict XVI.

After 20-odd years of a profoundly conservative pope, they need another? Perhaps you meant that you just like conservatives and think they’re right?

Andrew, I would be very interested to hear why you think the RCs need another conservative pope.
I grew up RC (don’t regret any of it), and though I have followed God down a different path since my college years, I remain an interested observer.

because the protestants have failed to produce a strong ethical flavor in global affairs, being caught up in their petty personal pietys, while the Roman Catholics are holding the torch for public righteousness and purity – its not what they hold to or what they forbid, rather its the fact that they are taking a stand on something and sticking to it – this create a huge amount of peace and stability and thats why i think a conservative Pope, at this stage of the game, is a good bet.
Most people will probably disagree with me on this and that OK. And no, i dont have any Catholic background – but i hope i have a future that integrates more with my Catholic brothers and sisters.
    There ya go!

I understand. It’s what my counselor calls “holding one’s own”. The more I do it, the more personal peace and stability I have. I hope it will be the same for the Catholic Church. I hope Protestants will hear you.
    Thanks-

So… conservative is a broad term, maybe defining it with some specific examples would be helpful in clarifying the conversation. Conservative theology or conservative practice and expression or conservative in his support of ethnic issues and which ones.. or just a hard headed guy willing to take a hit for being the one to take a stand… Lots of possibilities, does any one know him that can comment directly?
