Tall Skinny Kiwi

R U Feeling the

Blog Mogo?

Welcome to my brand spanking new blog.

Welcome to my new blog. What a great chance to start again. I really loved my old blog on the Typepad platform and it was awesome to have millions of visitors but 10 years is a long time and thousands of posts is quite a pile. It became more a well than a spring. And a blog should be a spring.

And to be honest I got quite BORED with it. So . . .  time to start again.

An introduction

Hello. I am Tall Skinny Kiwi but my real name is Andrew. I travel the world to help launch social enterprises and try to blog along the way. I have been married for 25 years and have 5 kids. I live in a truck. And travel with a backpack. 25 years of travel in and out of 50 countries has given me a unique perspective on this and this flavours my blog.

In this new blog, I will do a few things different.

1. WordPress

Using the WordPress platform, which has been the platform I have been using to launch other people’s blogs and a few of my other blogs. I am a big fan of one page blog templates, Google Fonts, and more recently the Revolution Slider which I hope will not look too cheesy on this site. I also prefer the responsive templates that look right on mobile phones which many of you have.

2. Blog to Book

I intend for my posts to naturally flow into e-book projects and many of the categories I use will shortly (I hope) become downloadable books that make it easy to read offline.

3. Language Translation

I hope to make it easier for non-English readers to enjoy the blog and I am thrilled about using the new plug ins available.

4. You Focus

My past blog was more about me and my stories and experiences. I want this one to give more attention to the readers, helping them live better and smarter.

5. Silliness

I get bored easily. And my old blog became far too serious, almost mimicking the many article based blogs out there. No wonder I stopped blogging. I need to be silly sometimes and express my strange sense of humour. I need to make fun of myself. My blog is an extension of me and to the extent that it reflects ME and who I am, to that extent I am motivated to keep it up. I will blog more about this in the “blog mojo” section.

6. Shorter, more responsive posts

The fact is that i use my iphone a lot more than my computer, especially when traveling, and it will be better for me to have a blog more conducive to social media posts with images and multimedia than a boring old collection of essays from a old fart who is approaching 50.

Nuff said.

If you liked my old tallskinnykiwi on typepad, and the even older one on blogger (2001-2003) then I hope you will join me for the next season. If so, please subscribe.

Welcome back and welcome to WordPress!

(be careful of plugin bloat – it can slow your site down before you realize it ;-))

I’ve been following along for the past four or five years, and I’m still here :)

Awesome, I love the wordpress Platform, and especially the practice of using a blog to write a book. Most of my books get “practice runs” on my blog.

    Lookin’ good

Hey Andrew, I have been following your family blogs for quite a few years now, you guys are an inspiration to us. I have a couple blogs myself (neither of which would probably interest you ;-) That being said our family is staying the course for minimal living so that we can do more interesting things together. Reading about other families that are doing cool things together helps us feel like we aren’t so crazy (and that there are those crazier than us ;-)

Hi Andrew, It’s good to catch up with your new blogging home. I guess we should arrange some kind of house warming! I’m setting up a new ‘Journey to the Crossroads’ blog for ‘Soul of India’ to run concurrently with ‘radref’, so look forward to joining you at WordPress soon.

Just found your old blog today which of course got me here. Congrats on the new one! Can’t wait to see what you have planned for this one!

Hi, nice see your new place…I’m trying to spot the option to subscribe via wordpress, but can’t see it. At the moment I’m following things and people in too many places and am trying to draw the chaos together.

Also giving blogging a bit more energy myself at the mo, having followed you and others for several years I’ve now jumped in the pool.
