You won’t get HIV from reading this blog

Today is World Aids Day and the theme is “Getting to Zero

World aids day

I am writing this from a Christian shelter for drug addicts in Bali. Our family has been living here for a week, helping them to think through some sustainable micro-business solutions. There are also a few HIV orphans living here since their parents passed away. At least half of the community are HIV+ and the coffee mug I am drinking from says,

“You won’t catch HIV by sharing this mug!”

Today, we will be going out on the streets to give away apples [not sure why] with little red ribbons to increase awareness of HIV in this country and to let people know that people with HIV are quite touchable and lovable and should not be discriminated against. The house around the corner, filled with mostly HIV+ ex-prostitutes, will be joining us and it should be a good, positive experience.
