2311 miles

This is our journey for the next two days. We will stop in Denver to pick up Jessica (who we left in San Francisco) but we will probably just keep driving until we hit Austin, TX. I think we have just enough money for gas to get there but it might be close. If you live on this path and we are driving by your house, give us a holler on my cell phone – 512 619 6735. Appreciate prayer for safe traveling and good weather.

2,311 miles in 2 days! It took me 10 days to cover 2,500 miles from Reno to Colorado Springs via Los Angeles. I did stop to visit some friends and take a look at some national parks, though. I guess you’re not stopping much…

  • Andrew,
I don’t know what day or time to expect you to drive through Oklahoma City.
If we can arrange the timing, I’d like to buy you and your family a lunch or a dinner. If nothing else, I could buy you a cup of coffee and shake your hand as your driving through.
If you are here around bedtime, I could even offer a place for you to spend the night.
Let me know what you think.

If you have time when you get near Houston give us a call and come on to Baytown for a bit. Maybe we could have enough time to give you a good meal before you board your plane.

  • Andrew, glad to see your furlough trip is going well. Hope we’ll get to see you again as you pass back through Dublin.
I wanted to ask you something while I’m thinking about it and put it out to everyone else reading here: I hear/read a lot about missional church/emerging church/incarnational ministry and I’m excited about what is coming out of the conversation (the convo., by the way, is just getting started here in Ireland). However, I haven’t come across much in the way of youth ministry. One of those large fears, I think, in families wanting to deconstuct/rethink church is they will find their children falling away in the process. I’m in the middle of trying to develop a missional youth ministry. I’ve been praying through how this manifests itself here in Dublin but I was wondering if there are any others out there thinking through the same issues, any articles, etc.
    Thanks much Andrew.

Matt, You’ve got to write me to hear what we’ve been doing, and what we’ve got on the horizon for next year.
Alot of the focus is geting the students to discover things for themselves, teach each other, and ultimately recognize that their actions reveal their hearts. Oh yeah, and shot street interviews in Isla Vista asking inebriated college students about the role of Pot and Alcohol in glorifying God!
…now if I could just get freshmen, (or whatever you Irish call ’em) to respect each other enough to listen to each other.
