New Orleans Day of Prayer

Governor of Louisiana requests day of prayer

“As we face the devastation wrought by Katrina, as we search for those in need, as we comfort those in pain and as we begin the long task of rebuilding, we turn to God for strength, hope and comfort.

“I have declared August 31, 2005, a Day of Prayer in the State of Louisiana.

“I am asking that all of Louisiana take some time Wednesday to pray. Pray for the victims and the rescuers. Please pray that God give us all the physical and spiritual strength to work through this crisis and rebuild” Link HT: netlexfrance

– Devastating. We are still getting information on the impact of Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath of the damage. Our prayers and thoughts are with those who lost family and friends. I haven’t been to New Orleans for about 7 years. The last time I was there I hooked up with some young people doing ministry with street kids but I have lost contact with them. Hope they are OK.

– Yesterday I was reading “The Ragamuffin Gospel” by Brennan Manning who lives with his wife in New Orleans. I assume he made it out Ok – or maybe he was doing a spiritual retreat somewhere?

I would be interested to know how the churches are holding up, and who is getting some relief efforts together.

Urban Onramps mentions Desire Street Ministries in New Orleans who may have just lost their ministry center.

Nola has the scoop on the city.

Don’t forget Southern Baptist’s, the 3rd largest disaster relief team in the USA, who are already on the ground and mobilizing. You can donate through http://www.namb.net/dr. I feel like such a homer, but they get the job done.
