  • I used it to set up a blog and site for Lakeland Church (http://lakeland.squarespace.com) and I was really impressed at how powerful it was (in some areas as powerful as Typepad) although it is a little rough around the edges. It also includes discussion boards, static html pages, Amazon lists, and a photo gallery.
The bad is that it doesn moblog yet and it doesn’t resize images (the files sizes are WAY bigger than Typepad which eats into your disk space allowance)
It is free but offers some premium services.

Andrew, Checked it out and it was pretty cool. I appeciate all your links because you stay on the cutting edge so that we can all profit by your research. Tried to email you twice yesterday but both times it was returned. Could your account be full again?????
    Thanks for being you!

susan – i just cleaned out the email – thanks for the heads up.
jordan – hope life near the norh pole is going well for you – typepad is not the best for images either – aligning text to the image, for example means adding your own html which i did before i starting using ecto blog editing software
a discussion board would be nice!

    Thanks for the link Andrew.
Jordon, I asked suarespace about the image size issue. They told me they could not help me on the server side, but there are many client side image resizing tools available. Do you know of any? Free would be nice.
Andrew, I still have to add my own html to align text to an image too-unless I am not noticing something in there.

Andrew (or anyone) – is there PC blog editing software that works with squarespace? If I can keep using w.bloggar I think I may just make the switch!

I want to start a blog and want to know which you would recommend I go for? I’m not a technie by any means, so some of these comments are over my head but i’m willing to learn. Over to you Andrew!

  • Andrew :: our snow just left last night. It feels like the North Pole this winter.
Scott :: The free Mihov image resizer – http://www.mihov.com/eng/ works pretty good for me when I want to do some bulk image conversion.
Matt :: No luck, w.blogger doesn’t work with squarespace. Squarespace doesn’t use the Blogger API.

Everyone: Meet Gary who leads a fantastic ministry with young people – are you still in Colombia?
Gary, i highly recommend Typepad.com. I used to recommend Blogger and then i would be helping them with issues again and again because their is no support. Typepad is much easier and better looking and people dont seem to bother me very much once they start out with typepad.
Although it is always funnier to start with something new and untested and perhaps squarespace would work for you.

  • Gary Manders says:

Thanks Andrew, for the recommendation. I do work with young people as part of my job but not so grand and not in Columbia but in Slough, UK.
